MACOMB, IL – One of England's most versatile bass trombonists, Jonathan Warburton, will be featured as a guest soloist during the Wind Ensemble President's Concert at Western Illinois University at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 5.

The concert will be held in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall and is open free to the public. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.

WIU Director of Bands Mike Fansler will conduct the performance, which will feature two world premiere performances for bass trombone and wind ensemble. The concert will also feature the works of Alfred Reed, Claude T. Smith and the world-renowned fourth symphony of David Maslanka.

"President Thomas has always appreciated this tribute concert and the wind ensemble and I look forward to delivering another stirring afternoon of music for him and all who attend," said Fansler.

Warburton has become known for premiering nearly 40 new solo works for the bass trombone, including the two new premieres at Western, "Concerto for Bass Trombone," by Tom Dossett, and "Hymn for Planet Earth," by Steven Verhelst.

The President's Concert has celebrated WIU's presidents since 1967.
