WIU Academic Advisors Host 2018 ILACADA Spring Drive-In

MACOMB, IL -- On May 4, Western Illinois University hosted training sessions for the Illinois Academic Advisors Association in Macomb.

"Acknowledge, Implement, Motivate: AIMining for Self-Care to Awaken Your Inner Jedi" had about 90 people in attendance and included break-out sessions, roundtable discussions and awards. The sessions included presentations by representatives of universities from Western and from across Illinois and center on academic advising- and career development-related topics.

During the event, "Best of Conference" presentation awards were presented for:

"A Framework for Creating Your Professional Development Action Plan" – by Heather Fletcher, Clarissa Leman, Katelyn Talbott and Kate Patterson, of the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign

• "When Using Appreciative Advising, Patience You Must Have My Young Padawans" – by Jennifer Grimm and Lisa Melz-Jennings, Western Illinois University

The keynote address, "Help Me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're My Only Hope," was delivered by Luis Moreno, the dean of students at Black Hawk College in Moline, IL.

The luncheon for the event was prepared by WIU Hospitality Management Quantity Food Production and Service students and the Macomb High School Western Area Career System culinary students.

The event was planned by WIU's academic advisors and was held at the Spoon River College Outreach Center.
