Boost Your Mental Health with Human Resources' Programs

MACOMB, IL - - To be healthy as a whole, mental wellness plays a role. All Western Illinois University faculty, staff and administrators are invited to "boost your mental health" with WIU Human Resources Talent Management.

HR Talent Management is hosting several mental health programs for WIU employees as part of the "Enrich YOU at WIU" program, beginning Tuesday, June 26. Programs include:

Five Fast Fixes to Reduce Stress – 10-11 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, University Union Sandburg Lounge
In this one-hour seminar, Joanne Bloomberg (retiree from the University Counseling Center), will teach five tips to help manage everyday stressors employees might face at home or work.

Helping Kids and Teens Recognize and Manage Stress – 1-2 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, webinar
The webinar will discuss common stressors of kids and teens, how kids and teenagers experience and show stress, stress management practices and ways to engage kids in managing their stress.

Run-Hide-Fight: Surviving an Active Shooter Event – 1:30-3 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room
The Run-Hide-Fight training, presented by WIU Office of Public Safety Lt. Tom Clark and Sgt. Derek Watts, is designed to help WIU employees to be better prepared and respond to an active shooter/active threat situation should they ever find themselves in one. Attendees should gain self-awareness and be empowered to respond to and survive an active shooter incident. Graduate students are also invited to attend this training.

Helping Employees Navigate Change (for supervisors only) – 1:30-2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, University Union Lincoln Room.
In this training, supervisors will learn more about the factors affecting change and how to deal with resistance to change.

Navigating Change in the Workplace – 1:30-2:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, University Union Lincoln Room
Attend this training to learn more about how people respond to change, as well as best practices for navigating change.

Surviving the Holidays – 10:30-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7, webinar
The holidays can be a very challenging time with stress, worry and sadness. In this training, participants will learn practical strategies and set goals for managing common threats, including depression, financial, excessive eating and drinking, relationships and over commitment.
