MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University School of Agriculture and the University Union Board (UUB) are kicking off the 2018 Leatherneck Football season in a "pig" way by hosting the inaugural Food, Family, Farming, Football BBQ Competition Saturday, Sept. 15 during tailgating in Q-lot. This joint venture celebrates agriculture and WIU Family Day.

The event is a ribs and brisket competition for teams using a wood, charcoal, electric or propane smoker. Guests may purchase tasting tickets to sample ribs and brisket and vote for their favorite. A panel of judges will also select the grand prizes in a variety of categories.

Tasting tickets will be sold for $3 each or two for $5. Tickets to the Leathernecks football game against the Montana Grizzlies, which begins at 3 p.m., are available for $10 each as well as t-shirts for $10. Discounted family packages, including t-shirts and tasting and game tickets, are also available.

In addition to the BBQ competition, there will be entertainment for all ages. The Rockn' Papas will be on stage to entertain the crowd and there will be face painting, games and activities for children.

The event is sponsored by Smithfield Foods, the Hancock County Beef Association, Compeer Financial and Pepsi.
