MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Because of the limitations imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Western Illinois University's popular summer camps have been moved to a virtual format. Each of the camps being offered this summer will be delivered via Zoom and will be free of charge through the generosity of a variety of University offices. The camps are one way to keep students engaged over the summer months.

The camps being offered in this format include Art: Colorful Minds and Creative Hearts (June 22-25 and June 29-July 2) and WIU's Summer Science Experience (July 6-10).

Art: Colorful Minds and Creative Hearts (full) is for students in grades 9-12. Projects include 3-D planar construction, copper relief and cyanotype printmaking. Enrollment for this program was also limited to 10 students and has been filled. However, those interested, can email Sally Adams at sa-adams2@wiu.edu with the student's name and email address to be placed on a waitlist. The two-week, hands-on camp will provide materials and instruction for creating a variety of artworks. Instructors will include three University faculty of the Department of Art and Design.

WIU's Summer Science Experience is for students in grades 9-12 and has a maximum enrollment of 10. The five-day camp will be offered in up to two sessions per day and is for students interested in science who want to explore careers in various scientific fields. The topics explored include astronomy, GIS, biology, meteorology and forensic anthropology. Instructors will include seven University faculty and a recent WIU graduate who completed her doctoral degree in environmental studies.
