Bystander Training Session to be Offered Nov. 10
November 2, 2020
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Do you know what to do if you witness a person who is in need of help? How do you stop a crime you come upon? What do you say to someone who is being malicious to, and bullying, another?
Find out the answer to these questions and more at the Western Illinois University's Student Development and Success Center Bystander Intervention virtual training program Tuesday, Nov. 10. The session, which is open at no charge to all WIU faculty, staff and students, will be held via Zoom from 5-6 p.m.
The program, Step UP!, is a pro-social behavior and bystander intervention program that educates individuals to be proactive in helping others. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate. According to Dawn Tonkinson, Health Education graduate assistant, the goals of Step UP! Training include raising awareness of helping behaviors, increasing motivation to help, developing skills and confidence when responding to problems or concerns and ensuring the safety and well-being of one's self and others.
Students, faculty and staff can register at https://wiu.campuslabs.com/engage/event/6526138. A Zoom link will be sent following registration. For more information, contact Tonkinson at (309) 298-1884 or DL-Tonkinson@wiu.edu.
