Director of Distance Education and Support Additional Interviews Set

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Two additional candidates will interview for the director of Distance Education and Support at Western Illinois University. Julia Sanders, associate director of the Office of Collaborative Academic Programs at IU Online, Indiana University, interviewed Feb. 11.
David Bentz, teaching and learning center coordinator at Eastern Oregon University, will interview Wednesday, Feb. 17. An open session will be held via Zoom from 2:15-3 p.m., Feb. 17. Xiaolin Charlene Hu, senior director of student and academic programs at California State University, will interview Thursday, Feb. 18. An open session will be held via Zoom from 2:15-3 p.m., Feb. 18. Faculty, staff and students who wish to participate in the open sessions must register at https://form.jotform.com/210353570598156.
Bentzhas served as teaching and learning center coordinator at Eastern Oregon University since 2018. Previously, he was the director of distance learning, academic affairs, at Montana Tech University from 2016-2018. Bentz has also served as the associate dean, academic affairs, Central Wyoming College (2014-2016); instructional designer II (senior, distance education, Utah Valley University (2103-2014); program manager, academic extensions, University of Oregon (2012-2013); along with other positions at Bellevue (NE) University (2009-2011) and select positions in higher education in Nebraska and Wisconsin.
Bentz received his doctorate, master's and bachelor's degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Hu has served as senior director of student and academic programs at California State University since 2019. Previously, she was the director of instructional development at California State from 2011-2019. Hu has also served as an adjunct lecturer at CSU; instructional faculty at KC Distance Learning and K12 Inc. (2006-2013); instructional designer at Johns Hopkins University (2011); instructional designer and coordinator at the University of Kansas Division of Continuing Education (2005-2011); and an application developer/analyst at the Kansas Department of Revenue (1999-2005).
Hu received her doctorate and master's degrees from University of Kansas and her bachelor's degree from Fujian Normal University, Fuzhou, Fujian, China.
Sanders has served as associate director of the Office of Collaborative Academic Programs at IU Online, Indiana University, since March 2020. She has also served as an adjunct professor for University College at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis(IUPUI) since 2015. Previously, Sanders was the manager of eLearning Design at Indiana University from 2013-2020. She has also served as an instructional design/curriculum specialist at the IUPUI School of Social Work; as a licensed secondary language arts instructor at Brownsburg Community School Corporation; and a language arts instructor at Scecina Memorial High School.
Sanders received her master's from University of Indianapolis and her bachelor's from Marian University.
The director of Distance Education and Support (ODES) will coordinate distance education activities and provide strategies for alternative format delivery, instruction, training and support. The director will also provide resources for faculty to develop alternative format delivery courses and provide instructional design to develop new courses and revise existing courses and programs.
