MACOMB, IL – The expansion of the organizations in Western Illinois University's United Greek Council (UGC) is underway, with multiple virtual presentations scheduled over Zoom throughout February.

The WIU community is welcome to attend the presentations, which include:

Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc. – 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17 - wiu.zoom.us/j/96730916494

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. - 4:30-5:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 25 - wiu.zoom.us/j/96438766712

The UGC is currently in the presentation step of the expansion process. The UGC community previously voted in favor of expanding the number of organizations, then an application was available to the national offices. The UGC then voted to decide which organizations would be invited to present to the WIU community.

Those who attend the presentations will be asked to fill out an evaluation form before the UGC Expansion Committee meets again to discuss the data provided. The committee will then vote which organizations will be invited for expansion and the results will be sent to the Vice President of Student Services for approval.

Starting a fraternity/sorority requires may take several years to accomplish. Organizations begin as an interest group, move to colony status, and then finally to a chartered organization status. The recognition process will culminate with the organization and its membership adopting pre-established standards in the areas of scholarship, philanthropy and community services, leadership, diversity, organizational management, professional development, personal development, and new/associate member and intake education programs.
