WIU Veterans Resource Center Seeking Award Nominations

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Veterans Resource Center is seeking nominations for the Veterans Leadership Awards Ceremony, which will be held Friday, May 14.

The office is seeking nominations for individuals for the following awards:


  • Outstanding Military Service Member or Veteran Student Award

  • Outstanding Veteran Alumni Award

  • Outstanding Faculty or Staff Member Award

  • Outstanding Service and Leadership Award

  • Outstanding Department Award

  • Outstanding Spouse/Significant Other Award


Individuals nominated should portray strong leadership characteristics and/or academics and/or serve as a role model for other students, staff, faculty or alumni by volunteering, participating in events, reaching out to fellow veterans or portraying an overall positive attitude towards others.

Nominations may be submitted to VeteransResources@wiu.edu for awards by Friday, April 23.

Nominations should include:

  • Your name, phone number, and e-mail

  • Name, phone number, and e-mail of the individual you wish to nominate

  • A letter of nomination that includes:

    • 1) How you know the individual you wish to nominate
    2) Branch, significant military or personal award and/or length of military service of the individual you wish to nominate. If possible include a DD214.
    3) The letter should emphasize quality of service, academics, student engagement, leadership and awards in a professional and/or college community.
    4) The letter for the Outstanding Spouse/Significant Other Award should include the contribution and commitment made to the service member and to the military community. Those supporting individuals who have been called up, mobilized or deployed will be viewed with highest priority.
