MCC Open House Aug. 26
August 26, 2021
MACOMB, IL – Members of the Western Illinois University and local communities are invited to attend the WIU Multicultural Center Open House on the MCC lawn (west of the center, along Murray Street/CT Vivian Way) from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26.
The open house will provide opportunities to learn about the resources and programming offered at the MCC and meet staff and students involved with the MCC and its organizations (Casa Latina Cultural Center, Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center, LGBT*QA Resource Center and the Women's Center). There will be prize giveaways and more as part of the event. All attendees must wear a face covering and observe social distancing measures.
"The MCC represents diversity, inclusion, unity and equity for our campus and our local communities," MCC Associate Director Carl Ervin said. "We welcome everyone to join us Thursday – and to stop by the MCC anytime - to learn more about all that we offer and how we can work together to make this great University even better. This is a great time to meet our staff and students, including our new assistant director and program coordinator, Freesia McKee."
Student organizations will host a variety of activities throughout the event. Western's student-funded center opened in August 2009.
"The MCC Open House is a great opportunity to learn more about what we have to offer not only our University community, but the greater Macomb region as well," said Meyani Montano, Casa Latina Cultural Center and MCC graduate assistant. "Stop by and meet the great staff and students of the Multicultural Center! The Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center, Casa Latina, LGBT*QA Resource Center and the Women's Center provide terrific resources and support for our University community and beyond."
