Virtual WIU Pre-Law Symposium Nov. 4

MACOMB, IL -- The Centennial Honors College at Western Illinois University will host its 19th annual Pre-Law Symposium virtually from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4.

The event can be accessed at wiu.zoom.us/j/95777198066. The event is open free to the WIU community, and students interested in the study of law are encouraged to attend.

This year's keynote speaker is WIU alumnus and attorney Ziyad Almutairi, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in English from WIU in 2012, and a master's degree in political science in 2014. He then received his J.D. degree in 2018, from the University of Iowa College of Law, and now works in Chicago as an attorney for the Cook County Assessor's Office – Compliance Department, where he focuses on issues involving the Fourth Amendment and unlawful political discrimination.

The event will also include a distinguished alumni panel, moderated by WIU Chair of Political Science Keith Boeckelman. The panel will include Hayden Goleman, 2020 WIU graduate – student at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law; Ryan Hunt, WIU Associate Professor of Management and Marketing, who has his J.D. from the Drake University School of Law; Tiffany Ketchum; 2016 WIU graduate – student at the Southern Illinois University School of Law; Kairo Scott, 2019 WIU graduate – student at the Loyola University School of Law; Brady Smith, 2018 WIU graduate – student at the Northern Illinois University Law School; and David Young, a WIU assistant professor in the School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration, who has his J.D. from the University of Illinois – Urbana Champaign. Other contributors include WIU Student Legal Advocate Victoria Smith, who has her J.D. from the Harvard University Law School; and WIU Professor of Emergency Management/LEJA Heriberto Urby, who has his J.D. from Texas Southern University School of Law.

The symposium is sponsored by the Office of WIU President Guiyou Huang; the Office of WIU Interim Provost Billy Clow; the College of Arts and Sciences; College of Business and Technology; College of Education and Human Services; the School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration and the WIU Department of Political Science.
