MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – To adhere to protocols and procedures currently in place on Western Illinois University's campuses (social distancing measures, etc.), as well as to allow students to invite family and friends to WIU's Commencement Ceremonies, the University will recognize Fall 2021 graduates at the Spring 2022 in-person ceremonies May 13-15.

"We understand that an in-person commencement ceremony is important to our students and their families and friends. To make in-person ceremonies possible, it's essential that we hold the events in a larger venue so we can properly social distance, as well as provide the opportunity for our students to invite their loved ones and friends to take part in this celebration of their achievements. Hanson Field in Macomb and the TaxSlayer Center in Moline will allow us to safely hold in-person ceremonies in Spring 2022," said WIU President Guiyou Huang. "We look forward to celebrating our Fall 2021 and our Spring 2022 graduates in May. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

Spring 2022 Ceremonies

The Macomb-based ceremonies will be held on Hanson Field (May 13-14), while the Quad Cities-based ceremony will be held at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline (May 15). Students can attend the ceremony for their program at either the Macomb or Quad Cities commencement location, regardless of which campus they primarily attended. Information about the May 2022 ceremonies can be found at wiu.edu/commencement.

Staged Studio Photographs

Professional photographs will be taken by the WIU Photography & Design Production (PDP) of each graduate as they cross the stage and receive their diploma cover during the May 2022 ceremonies.

In addition, graduates may schedule a studio portrait session at Photography and Design Production, Tillman Hall 207, on the Macomb campus. A time will also be set on the WIU-Quad Cities campus for Fall 2021 graduates from that campus. Graduation portraits are by appointment only and can be arranged by calling the PDP office at (309) 298-1358. Graduates may wear caps and gowns if they choose.

Celebratory Video Message

The University will post a congratulatory message, with Fall 2021 graduates names included, on the WIU YouTube Channel (live link) at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18 to recognize those students who are completing their degree requirements this fall.

Cap and Gown Sales

Caps and gowns are available for purchase through the University Bookstore.
