Interviews Set for WIU Vice President of Finance and Administration

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Two candidates for the Western Illinois University Vice President of Finance and Administration position are set for on campus interviews Monday, Nov. 15 and Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Stephen Kent, former vice president of finance and administration for the Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, MN, will interview Monday, Nov. 15, and Mark Volpatti, the associate vice chancellor for the Division of Finance and Administration at Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), will interview Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Kent served as the vice president of finance and administration for the Mitchell Hamline School of Law from October 2020 through September 2021. Previously, he was the vice president for finance and facilities at North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, MN from 2016-2020. Kent also served in the U.S. Army from 2008-2014, in a variety of roles including Chief Financial Officer, comptroller and Chief of Plans and Operations.

Kent received his MBA from Syracuse University and his bachelor's degree from Alcorn State University.

Volpatti has served as the associate vice chancellor for the Division of Finance and Administration at IUPUI since 2018, serving as the interim associate vice chancellor from 2016-2018. Previously, he was the director of financial affairs for finance and administration at IUPUI from 2014-2018. Volpatti has served also served in other capacities at IUPUI including: Chief Operating Officer and executive director of finance and administration (2009-2014); interim executive director of enrollment management (2011-2013); administrative director for the Consortium for Learning and Scholarship (2005-2008); and faculty/student liaison for Adaptive Educational Services (2002-2005). Before joining IUPUI, he worked in sales and accounting in retail.

Volpatti earned his doctorate, master's and bachelor's degrees from Indiana University. He also earned a master's from Saint Meinrad School of Theology.

A member of the president's senior leadership team, the vice president for finance and administration is responsible for all financial and campus operations, funds collection and recommending and implementing fiscal-, administrative- and personnel-related policies and procedures. The VPFA oversees the Budget Office, Financial Affairs Office, Equal Opportunity and Access, Human Resources, and Purchasing. The VPFA also has responsibility for general business management, which includes best practices in human relations, budgetary control, financial management, procurement and other related activities. The vice president for finance and administration serves as the University's Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
