MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Communication, and its Social Media Lab, were recently chosen for inclusion in the 2022 PRNews Education A-List.

The list is an editorial roster of the best higher learning institutions for career advancement in public relations and marketing communications. To make the list, the PRNews editors look at how each institution's degree programs prepare students for continued success in their existing jobs, as well as along future career paths. Those chosen are considered to have evolving program offerings to reflect the changing nature of the field of communication.

WIU Associate Professor of Communication and Social Media Lab Director Josh Averbeck applied for the designation in September. He was required to provide information about WIU's course offerings, current students, alumni and extracurricular opportunities.

"I'm very proud of our students' work and they should feel very good about this recognition," said Averbeck. "A lot of our alumni are PR professionals around the country, and this supports what already know – we have a successful program for students to get jobs."

WIU will be listed on the PRNews website to be available when students are looking for top public relations programs.

"Being named to this list means more top students around the country will be looking to WIU and the Communication Department," said Averbeck. "I hope this will result in more students committing to WIU in the near future."
