With more than 140,000 Leathernecks throughout the world, Western Illinois University stands in solidarity and support with our alumni and friends from Ukraine.

WIU 2011 Political Science Alumna Olena Prokopenko, who is a non-resident Fellow at The German Marshall Fund of the United States, the development advisor at Embassy of Denmark in Ukraine and co-founder and co-chair of the Transatlantic Task Force on Ukraine, has remained in touch with her friends at WIU, and has shared on her social media how individuals in the U.S. can help.

• Support reputable organizations such as Ukrainian NGO, Return Alive Foundation (https://savelife.in.ua/en/donate/).

• Reach out to your elected representatives to support Ukraine.

• Support Ukrainian refugees.

• Help Ukraine by sharing legitimate information (updates at https://kyivindependent.com/).

We condemn these unprovoked, violent attacks that affect our alumni and friends in Ukraine, as well as the devastating economic and political impacts across the globe. We can make a difference by making our voices heard and helping those in need. For the good of all humanity, we must stand up to those who want to take away the human rights of others.

Guiyou Huang, Ph.D.
President
Western Illinois University
