MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University students will have one more chance to think about summer employment this week as the University's Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration hosts the Virtual Summer Opportunities Fair, from 4-6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24. The virtual fair will occur online via Handshake.

According to RPTA Assistant Professor Megan Owens, this virtual summer job fair intends to reach students still looking for a quality, seasonal job, or internship for this summer.

The Virtual Summer Opportunities Fair will have over 65 businesses and organizations that are seeking to fill positions, such as customer service, media relations, lifeguards, food service/catering, athletic instructors, inclusion aids, camp counselors (day or overnight), maintenance and natural resource grounds crews and many more.

Students can find these opportunities throughout Illinois or as far away as Alaska or Maine. There is an available experience for anyone seeking a unique, skill-based, and well-paid summer position. The fair is open to students of all career interests and majors.

"Attending the fair provides students of various majors with employment possibilities and networking opportunities with a range of businesses. Real world skills can be developed through seasonal work, such as communication and leadership skills, creativity, collaboration, problem solving and critical thinking. These are important skills that employers across all career fields seek in today's college graduates." Owens said.

Students must register through the WIU Handshake account to participate in the fair: wiu.joinhandshake.com/edu.
