'A Pirate's Life for She' to be Performed at WIU April 6-10

MACOMB, IL – The play "A Pirate's Life for She," will be performed at Western Illinois University's Hainline Theatre, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, April 6-9, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10.

The play is an original, sentimental comedy, written by Amie Root about the "little known female swashbucklers." Root, a stage combat, movement and pedagogy teacher, fight director and playwright, has been in residence on campus, helping prepare the play for performances.

The WIU production of the play is being directed by WIU Theatre and Dance Professor DC Wright, and assistant directed by Theatre and Dance Teaching Assistant Taylor Dahlberg. Wright is also doing the fight choreography and direction for the show. Costume design is being done by Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance Rebel Mickelson, lighting design by Graduate Assistant Trevor Turner and scenic design by Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance Steven House. Music and lyrics are by Root and Arne Parrott.

Root has been on campus helping stage the play. She travels across the country teaching and working in the theatre, is a certified teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors and is the resident fight director for Unto These Hills in North Carolina.

General admission tickets are $15, and tickets for senior citizens and students are $12. WIU students are admitted free with valid student identification.
