WIU's NEWS3, The Proxy Report Win Two National Broadcast Awards

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University's student-run, broadcast news station, NEWS3, and The Proxy Report, an online news aggregator featuring content from NEWS3 and original content by The Proxy Report student staff, won awards from the National Undergraduate Student Electronic Media Competition, hosted by NBS in March.

Dylan Smith, the executive producer for NEWS3, the student-run television news station, won first place for his news feature package, "Corn... Did you know?" Also, the Proxy Report student staff won first place in the Website category for The Proxy Report at theproxyreport.com, as well as content from the Western Courier, and is linked to 88.3 The Dog's website.

The annual National Electronic Media Association Student Competition Awards ceremony was held during the NBS Conference March 28-30. The conference consisted of broadcasting workshops, guest speakers and an awards ceremony.

Nominations for awards also included NEWS3 staffer Lyndsay Mach, for the Web News Article category for her piece titled, "'For me to recover I've had to give': From prison to fatal fire to helping others."
