WIU Centennial Honors College Dean Interviews Set

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Two Western Illinois University faculty members will interview for the position of dean of the WIU Centennial Honors College.

Heather McIlvaine-Newsad, anthropology professor, will interview Monday, April 18, and Lorette Oden, interim dean of the honors college and chair of the Department of Health Sciences and Social Work, will interview Tuesday, April 19. Open sessions will be held with each candidate via zoom. Individuals must register in advance. McIlvaine-Newsad's open session with faculty and staff will be held at 1:30 p.m. April 18 (bit.ly/McIlvaineNewsadOpenSession1) and the open session with students will be held at 3 p.m. (bit.ly/McIlvaineNewsadOpenSession2). Oden's open session with faculty and staff will be held at 2:30 p.m. April 19 (bit.ly/OdenOpenSession1) and with students at 3 p.m. (bit.ly/OdenOpenSession2)

McIlvaine-Newsad has been a professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology since 2009. She joined the department in 2000 as an assistant professor, and was promoted to associate professor in 2004. McIlvaine-Newsad has also served as the anthropology program director since 2020, and completed a WIU Affirmative Action Internship in environmental sustainability in 2013 and served as the faculty associate for multiculturalism for Center for Information Technologies (CITR) from 2005-2008.

McIlvaine-Newsad received her doctorate in cultural anthropology from the University of Florida, a master's in Latin American Studies from Ohio University and her bachelor's degree in German from Denison University.

Oden has served as the interim dean of the Centennial Honors College since July 2020. She has served as the College of Human and Services associate dean since August 2018 and has served as chair of health sciences and social work since 2015. She joined the department (formerly called the WIU Department of Community Health and Health Services Management) as an assistant professor in 1999. Oden was promoted to associate professor in 2003 and to professor in 2008. Previously, she served as a doctoral research assistant and instructor in the University of Toledo Department of Health Promotion and Human Performance. Oden also served as a Fellow of the 2012 American Association of Blacks in Higher Education Leadership and Mentoring Institute at Miles College in Birmingham, AL.

Oden received her doctorate in health education, an MBA and her bachelor's degree in biology from The University of Toledo (OH).
