CHICAGO, IL – A public art project to mark the Chicago Race Riot of 1919 will host its fourth annual Bronzeville Bike Tour Saturday, July 30. A program begins at 10 a.m., followed by a two-hour bicycle your of the Bronzeville and Bridgeport neighborhoods, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The ride begins at the Chicago Military Academy, 3519 S. Giles St., in Chicago.

The Chicago Race Riot of 1919 Commemoration Project (CRR19) was founded by Western Illinois University History Professor Peter Cole, and is co-directed by Cole and The University of Chicago Medicine's Violence Recovery Program Director Franklin Cosey-Gay.

The project is a reminder of the 38 people killed in the worst incident of racial violence in Chicago history. The commemoration project will place historical markers at the sites where each person was killed during the riot.

Prototypes of the markers will be on display Saturday, and a free lunch will be available after the ride.

This year's event will include the history of Eugene Williams and how his killing sparked the riots.

Last year's ride attracted about 300 riders.
