WIU Mourns Student Death

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - The Western Illinois University community is saddened to learn of the death of WIU MBA graduate student Jim Shirk, 40, of Erie, IL, who died Aug. 3.
Shirk earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Western and was pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at WIU. He was an engineering manager for Sewer Equipment Company in Dixon, IL.
"I was so sorry to learn about Jim's passing. He was a very nice and hardworking man," said WIU Associate Professor of Engineering Khaled Zbeeb.
"We extend our deepest condolences to Jim's family, friends and colleagues," said WIU President Guiyou Huang.
Visitation was held Aug. 8 at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home in Erie.
