WIU Multicultural Center to Host Annual Fall Open House Sept. 1

MACOMB, IL – The Multicultural Center at Western Illinois University will host its annual open house for the campus and Macomb communities from 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1. Activities will take place on the center's lawn, as well as inside the building.

The open house will also feature free food and a chance to meet representatives of student organizations housed in the center, along with music and dancing. The center is home to the Casa Latina Cultural Center, the LGBT*QA Resource Center, the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center and the Women's Center.

"We are excited about the start of a new academic year, and the opportunity to welcome both new and returning faces to WIU and the MCC," said Multicultural Center Associate Director and Interim Director of WIU's new Office of Justice, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Carl Ervin. "We invite you to join us as we continue to advance our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. We look forward to meeting you."

The open house is also an opportunity to welcome the Multicultural Center's new Assistant Director LeRon Williams.

"I am extremely honored to be joining the historical Multicultural Center staff," said Williams. "Rocio and Carl have done an amazing job of trailblazing a path to follow ahead. I am excited to pick up the torch and put my own stamp on the MCC and Western Illinois University in a way that the students can relate to and enjoy.

The Multicultural Center, which opened in Fall 2009, is located on Murray Street/CT Vivian Way, across from the University Union.
