MACOMB, IL – A Western Illinois University Communication professor has been named to a national list of the top 1 percent of academic publishers in Communication research.

Professor Christopher Carpenter was named to the list, which was published in the Communication Education journal this month. Carpenter tied for eighth place on the list.

The five-year review of publishers covers the years 2017-2021, during which Carpenter published 14 articles.

Most recently, Carpenter co-published an article in the journal of Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking, titled, "The Hyperperception Model: When Your Partner's New Friends Inspire Jealousy and Failing to Use Social Distancing."

The paper was the result of a five-week study, beginning in May 2020, when people were asked to stay home during the COVID-19 pandemic. A survey of WIU students was part of the research results.

Carpenter has written or co-written more than 50 other articles about human communication and the impact of social media. In May 2020, he was honored by the International Communication Association with the "Outstanding Contribution to Communication Science" award for an article he co-authored, titled, "On Replication in Communication Science."
