Campus Interviews Scheduled for Director of WIU's First Year Advising Center

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Two candidates will interview to become the new director of Western Illinois University's First Year Advising Center Wednesday, Feb. 22, Thursday, Feb. 23 and Monday, Feb. 27.
Candidates include Eastern Iowa Community College TRIO Project Director Steve Cravens (Feb. 22; and University of California Irvine Program in Public Health Student Support Manager Miguel A. Huerta (Feb. 27).
Cravens has been the project director at Eastern Iowa Community College's TRIO Program since July 2019. Previously, he was a TRIO success coach at Eastern Iowa Community College from 2017-19; student advisor at Ashford University from 2013-17; a community educator for the University of Illinois Extension SNAP-ED from 2009-11 and program coordinator for the University of Illinois Extension – Local Foods/Small Farms from 2011-12.
Cravens received his bachelor's degree in history from St. Ambrose University and his master's degree in education and interdisciplinary studies from WIU.

Huerta has been the University of California Irvine Program in Public Health Student Support Manager since 2021. Previously, he was the Whittier College Center for Advising and Academic Success (CAAS) associate director from 2019-2021; assistant director of the Center for Advising and Academic Success at Whittier College from 2016-19; graduate assistant for the Chicana and Chicano Resource Center at California State University in 2017; the Center for Advising and Academic Success (CAAS) Academic Support coordinator at Whittier College in 2016; and a graduate assistant for the Male Success Initiative at California State Fullerton from 2015-16.
Huerta received his associate's degree in language arts, his bachelor's degree in Spanish from the University of California Los Angeles; and his master's degree in higher education from California State University.
