Kurasz Named Associate COFAC Dean

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University College of Fine Arts and Communication Interim Associate Dean Rick Kurasz has been named COFAC Associate Dean, beginning July 1.

Kurasz has been serving as interim associate dean since August 2022. Prior to accepting the interim position, Kurasz was the assistant director of WIU's School of Music and has served as director of percussion studies. He was hired at WIU in August 2002.

"Dr. Kurasz brings energy, expertise and a commitment to academic excellence," said Dean Billy Clow. "I look forward to working with Rick in the Dean's Office and thank him for his willingness to continue to serve the College."

Kurasz received his bachelor's degree in music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; his master's degree in music from the University of Akron in Ohio and his doctoral degree in musical arts, performance and literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Before coming to Western, Kurasz directed the University of Akron Steel Band, the University of Illinois Steel Band, I-Pan Steel Groove, the Idaho State University Steel Band, and his own combo, Panak. He will continue as the director of the Western Illinois University Steel Band.
