MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University School of Music will present a special trumpet celebration and concert honoring retiring Professor of Music Bruce Briney, at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 26 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

Celebrating 30 years of trumpet teaching, Briney will host an alumni trumpet recital that will bring over 40 former students back to campus. The alumni represent graduating classes from 1978-2022.

Music for the program will showcase various ensembles and soloists, including the premiere of a fanfare written for the event by Professor John Mindeman. Emeritus Professor John Cooper and the Faculty Hopper Jazztet will collaborate with alumni on two jazz standards.

The recital celebration also marks the start of a dedicated trumpet scholarship drive.

The performance is open free for general public seating, and will be live-streamed on the School of Music's YouTube Channel and Facebook page.
