MACOMB, IL - - Thanks to a group of enthusiastic and committed Western Illinois University students, WIU was selected to host the 2023 Great Lakes Affiliate of College & University Residence Halls (GLACURH) Regional Leadership Conference.

"The regional leadership conference provides an opportunity for students to come together from across the Great Lakes region to talk about relevant issues and allows for students to come together for a common goal: to improve the on-campus residential experience of students," said Assistant Director of Residence Life and GLACURH 2023 conference advisor Greta Dieter.

WIU students began the bid process in early October 2022 and presented the final bid to host GLACURH RLC 2023 last weekend in Chicago, IL.

"On behalf of the conference staff, we are extremely thrilled for the opportunity to open our campus to the GLACURH community for the first time since the national conference was hosted by WIU in 2011," said 2023 conference co-chairs and WIU students Joanna Lee and Jordan Rouse.

GLACURH is an affiliate of the largest student-run organization in the world, bringing together 400 schools from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Qatar. GLACURH's central mission is to promote living on campus as an integral part of the college experience and strives to provide resources to help member schools create the ultimate residence hall environment and experience. The 2023 conference is scheduled for Friday-Sunday, Oct. 20-22.

"I am extremely proud of Inter-Hall Council and the National Residence Hall Honorary for their commitment, dedication and the many hours of hard work invested by its members," said Associate Vice President for Student Services John Biernbaum. "They are enthusiastic about what they can do, and I am confident they will do an excellent job representing GLACURH and WIU."

"Western has a long history of involvement and support of GLACURH," said WIU Director of Student Life Jessica Butcher. "We have supported many students at the regional and national board level throughout the years, as well as hosted several successful regional and state level conferences."
