Myers Awarded WIU President's Scholarship

MACOMB, IL – Plainfield South High School senior Carter Myers, of Plainfield, IL, has been awarded a Western Illinois University President's Scholarship, in conjunction with the Western Commitment Scholarship. Together, these scholarships cover four years of tuition, fees, a double residence hall room and standard board for eight semesters.

"I first learned about Western from my mother and grandmother, who are both alumni," said Myers. "When I visited campus, I had the opportunity to meet with my Honors counselor (Krista Skien) and hear about the extensive learning opportunities that Western has to offer. The ability to double major in topics I care about, while participating in activities such as choir, convinced me that Western is the right place for me."

In high school, Myers was active in theater and choir, as well as the National Honor Society, Plainfield South Leadership Corps, was a tour guide to incoming freshmen, acted as president of the drama club and volunteered in the community.

At Western, Myers plans to double major in English and Anthropology, and minor in music, as well as participate in choir and serve as an ambassador for the Honors program. After graduation, Myers hopes to find a career that combines his passions for writing, philosophy, music and making a difference in the lives of others.

To qualify for the WIU President's Scholarship, students must first be awarded WIU's Commitment Scholarship. The scholarship decision is also weighted by proof of volunteer and community service.
