Yesufu Awarded WIU President's Scholarship

MACOMB, IL – High School senior Oluwanifemi Yesufu, of Laurel, MD, has been awarded a Western Illinois University President's Scholarship, in conjunction with the Western Commitment Scholarship. Together, these scholarships cover four years of tuition, fees, a double residence hall room and standard board for eight semesters.

"I selected Western Illinois University as the school I would like to spend the next four-plus years of my life because it is a place I can truly call my own," Yesufu said. "It is a school that has a wide variety of majors, minors and accelerated programs, has a great support system, and is very passionate about physical activity. The students seem to love being here, the faculty are passionate about the various things they do and the college has this special air to it. For these reasons, I know for a fact I can do great things and achieve my goals here, because honestly, what better sign of future success than the feeling that you are at home."

In high school, Yesufu was involved in debate team, STEM programs, club and high school soccer, National Honor Society, CMIT LEAD, and was a Peer Forward Peer leader.

At Western, Yesufu plans to major in computer science or engineering technology, while participating in soccer and the Computer Science Association. After graduating from WIU, Yesufu plans to work in healthcare analytics.

To qualify for the WIU President's Scholarship, students must first be awarded WIU's Commitment Scholarship. The scholarship decision is also weighted by proof of volunteer and community service.
