Guest Recital Tuesday in COFAC Recital Hall
April 6, 2023
MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University School of Music will present a Guest Recital featuring percussion artist Lee Forrest Ferguson at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.
Ferguson's performance "Is This Thing On - an evening of concert pieces, etudes and improvisation with MalletKat" will feature compositions by Carlos Cotallo Solares, Donald Bousted, Sohrab Uduman, Steve Reich, Shawn Huelle, James Romig, Brandon Goff and Hayoung Hwang.
Ferguson is a percussionist based in Freiburg, Germany who has begun commissioning "Etudes" for midi-mallet instruments.
This project is focused toward young players (high school or early college) who are interested in learning more about how to use electronics while still playing with mallets in their hands. The etudes are sometimes short, utilize electronics and are fun to play/listen to. Ferguson will perform and talk about a selection of works from the UK, Germany, Korea, USA and Zimbabwe that have been written for this project.
The performance is open free to the public.
