'The Gulf' Comes to Simpkins Theatre April 21-22

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Theatre and Dance will present "The Gulf," at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, April 21-22 in the Simpkins Hall Theatre.

The play, by Audrey Cefaly, is directed by WIU Assistant Professor Hadley Kamminga-Peck. The production is the full-length version of the 40th annual Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival winner, also titled, "The Gulf."

The play is about the divide between Kendra and Betty and how it "mimics the very world that devours them: a vast and polarizing abyss." Set in the Alabama Delta, Kendra and Betty troll the flats looking for redfish.

After Betty begins diagnosing Kendra's dead-end life with career picks from, "What Color is Your Parachute," their routine fishing excursion takes a violent turn.
