Bryan Named April Employee of the Month

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University Infrastructure Communications Services Specialist III Stephanie Bryan has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for April.

Bryan was hired at WIU in 1996 as a Clerk II in Telecommunications Services. She was reclassified by audit to Clerk III in Telecommunications Services in 1997, and to Chief Clerk in Telecommunications Services in 1998. Bryan was audited to Communications Services Specialist I, II and III in the same department in 1999, 2001 and 2004 respectively, to Infrastructure Communications Services Specialist in 2019 and to her current position in 2022.

The person nominating Bryan for the employee of the month honor said she has dedicated her 26-year career at WIU to Telecommunications.

"She is very detail-oriented and strives to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner," according to the nominator. "Most recently, she has been instrumental in the implementation and installation of the new VoIP telephone system in Sherman Hall. She took it upon herself to learn the new system and how to program the phones. Not only did she learn the system, but also assisted in the installation of the phones and staff training. Furthermore, she had to troubleshoot problems as they arose while continuing to do her daily tasks. She embodies the Core Values by going above and beyond to support the staff at WIU."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact the Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
