Dear University Community,

Western Illinois University proudly recognizes and celebrates National Latinx Heritage Month, which was expanded from a week in September to a full month 35 years ago. Western began our celebration Friday, Sept. 15, and it will continue though Oct. 15.

At Western, we are proud to celebrate our Latinx students, faculty, and staff, not only during this month-long celebration, but throughout the entire year. The Multicultural Center (MCC) will host several events and activities, including Beach Bracelets from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, Paint and Be Heard from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, Latina Music and Dance Workshop at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, and several more. A full list of events and more details can be found at bit.ly/451eUdM.

It is an honor to share, and learn more about, Latinx history and culture. While we celebrate the contributions and lives of the Latinx culture during this month, we have every day throughout the year to learn more about others, and promote equity, inclusivity, and diversity. Thank you to the Multicultural Center and our diverse student organizations for all that you bring to our campus and our communities.

Best wishes,

Guiyou Huang
President
