Dear University Community,

This has been a week of tremendous loss and horror. I am deeply saddened by the events that have been occurring in Israel and Gaza.

I feel it is important to take a stand and boldly condemn all forms of hate, terrorism, and religious bigotry, which can never be justified.

This is a time for us to come together to support one another and remember to show and spread kindness. Please be mindful that many in our WIU community may be grieving or struggling with loss and anxiety related to the escalating violence in the region.

Your WIU family is here to support you through this difficult time, and many resources are in place to help. In addition, there are local and national hotlines for people who want to talk anonymously or reach out when others are not available.

For a list of resources, go to Emergency Resources. If at any time, you feel you need to talk with a professional, contact the University Counseling Center at (309) 298-2453, the Psychology Clinic (309-298-1919) or a community agency to set an appointment.

If you don't know exactly what you need, and/or have concerns about someone else, you can complete a Leatherneck Care Report for non-emergencies. WIU staff will reach out to you or the referred person of concern to help identify appropriate resources.

We will continue to strive to maintain our campus as a safe and supportive place for learning, and for our students and employees who live and work here.

Sincerely,

Guiyou Huang
