MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's Phi Beta Delta hosted "A Taste of India" at the Campus Students for Christ facility in Macomb, bringing the culture and cuisine of India to life. Approximately 90 WIU students, faculty and community members gathered to enjoy a classic Indian meal and learn about Indian history and culture.

Phi Beta Delta, an international honorary organization, organized this event to support scholarships for WIU study abroad students and international initiatives at WIU. The menu featured Butter Chicken, Vegetable Rice, Roti and Gulab Jamun Dessert, chosen by Phi Beta Delta members Dave Behymer and Jack McKinnon, with assistance from other WIU students from India.

After the meal, WIU student Washim Shaik delivered an informative presentation on Indian culture and history. The event also featured a vocal performance of Indian music by Samidha Prassad and traditional Indian dances by Prasad, Vishnu Vandana Pyatia and Neena Remdala.

"Our scholarship fundraiser dinners, which typically include a different country each year, help give everyone a greater sense of our global community," Phi Beta Delta President John Carlson said. "They take a lot of work from everyone in our group, but they help us reach our mission of international education for students and the community in general. Our next fundraiser will be in November 2024."

Phi Beta Delta is open to all WIU faculty, students and community members interested in international education and cultural exchange. The organization hosts culture nights and events to support international students' acclimation to American life.
