WIU Authors Reception Hosted by WIU Libraries

MACOMB, IL - - To celebrate the scholarly and artistic output of Western Illinois University, the University Libraries hosted the 18th annual Authors Recognition Reception on April 25, in the Malpass Library Garden Lounge. This year's Authors Reception included 331 citations of published works by 193 WIU authors, including faculty, staff, students and administrators.
All colleges and academic departments from both campuses were represented and
authors from other campus offices and centers, such as the University Counseling
Office and the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs were present.
"Today's activity validates the role of scholarly work and the importance of the university as an institution where understanding and working with other social actors can show the rest of society the significance of intellectual authority. A liberal democracy cannot exist without institutions and people who validate the fundamental role of intellectual authority in society," Dean of the Libraries Héctor Maymí-Sugrañes said.
