Caterpillar CEO Named 2003 CBT Ferguson Lecturer

MACOMB, IL – The CEO and chair of Caterpillar, Inc. will present the 15th annual Ferguson Lecturer Wednesday, Oct. 22 for Western Illinois University's College of Business and Technology (CBT) Week.

The 2 p.m. lecture by Glen Barton, will present the annual Ferguson Lecture will be held in the Union Grand Ballroom. It is open free to the public.

Barton, who was named chair and CEO in February 1999, has been with Caterpillar Inc. since joining the company as a college trainee in 1961. He has held a variety of marketing and general management positions over the years, eventually being elected vice president of Caterpillar and president of the Solar Turbines Inc., a Caterpillar subsidiary in San Diego in 1987. Two years later he was named executive vice president of Caterpillar in Peoria, IL with responsibility for worldwide marketing.

The Robert and Mary Ferguson Lecture Series was established in 1989 to honor Dr. Robert Ferguson and his wife, Mary. Dr. Ferguson was a business education instructor at WIU from 1947 until his retirement in 1986. He also served as business education chair for more than 20 years.
