Hamilton Named Health Department Chair

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) has announced that Diane Hamilton, coordinator of health education with the University of Texas at Arlington department of kinesiology, has been named chair of Western’s department of community health and health services management, effective July 15, according to COEHS Dean Bonnie
Smith-Skripps.
Hamilton will replace Nancy Parsons, who served as acting chair of the department since January 2004. Parsons will return to full-time teaching in the department.
Prior to her faculty appointment with the University of Texas at Arlington in 2001, Hamilton served for six years as program coordinator of the health behavior and health promotions programs within Georgia Southern UniversityÂ’s department of health and kinesiology. Higher education appointments before that were with Penn State University and Youngstown State University. As a practicing professional, HamiltonÂ’s service included directorship of the outpatient eating disorders treatment program with Parkside Medical Services of Columbus, OH.
Hamilton has an extensive record of publications and presentations, with specializations in eating disorders. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist and a Registered Dietician. Hamilton earned her bachelorÂ’s and masterÂ’s degrees in nutrition/dietetics and counseling, respectively, from Youngstown State University. Her Ph.D. is in health education and promotion from Pennsylvania State University.
“Dr. Hamilton brings a record of outstanding performance and the ability to lead faculty and staff through strategic planning as well as through implementation,” Smith-Skripps said. “Upon arrival, she will have a talented faculty and staff with whom to work.”
