MACOMB, IL -- Illinois Governor George Ryan has announced the appointment of Theodore "Ted" Brunsvold, director of legislative and regulatory affairs for Greenberg Traurig LLP Chicago office, to the Western Illinois University Board of Trustees.

A native of Milan, Brunsvold served as government affairs director of the Illinois Manufacturers' Association (1998-2000). He also served as communications coordinator and research/appropriations analyst for the Illinois House of Representatives, office of Speaker Michael J. Madigan (1994-1998) and on the Illinois House Democratic Majority Committee (1994-1998). He is a graduate of the University of Illinois Springfield.

"We are delighted that an individual with a clear understanding of the governmental process in Illinois has been selected to provide valuable leadership in public higher education," said WIU President Donald S. Spencer. "Our newest trustee has a strong connection to the Quad Cities, and his fellow trustees look forward to working with him in the months ahead."

Brunsvold was named to serve the remainder of the term vacated by C. Robert Leininger, who resigned. The appointment must be confirmed by the Illinois Senate.
