Dear Campus Community,

As you are probably aware, the Illinois Legislature did not pass a budget for the next fiscal year and continues to meet. Given the uncertainty of our budget, the need to possibly reallocate $2 million to replace chillers to provide air conditioning to several campus buildings, and our commitment to as low a tuition increase as possible for the coming academic year, we are sorry that at this time we are unable to announce a salary increase for non-negotiated employees.

Please know that the Vice Presidents and I are committed to providing funds for salary increases. Once the new budget is passed and signed by the governor, we will review all budgetary resources and a determination will be made regarding the level of salary increases.

As we enter the new fiscal year without our entire state general revenue fund appropriation, we must also rely on our local income funds to meet emergency expenses, including the rental of portable chillers for Horrabin and Currens halls. All University offices should, therefore, limit spending to immediate operational needs. The vice presidents and I will continue to closely monitor expenditures.

Please know how appreciative we are of your understanding. Thank you so much.

Al Goldfarb
President
