WIU School of Music Presents Brassfest 2008 January 20

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's School of Music Brassfest 2008, featuring the Gaudete Brass Quintet and members of Western's brass faculty, will be held Sunday, Jan. 20 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

The festival, which begins at 1 p.m., will feature performances, clinics and an opportunity to play in the Festival Brass Choir during the evening concert. This concert, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall, will feature works composed by Eric Ewazen (b. 1954), Giovanni Gabrieli (1555-1612), John Wilbye (1574-1638), Eugene Bozza (1905-1991) and George Gershwin (1898-1937).

The Gaudete Brass Quintet is the artist-in-residence group at Carthage College (WI). They have been featured in a number of prominent concert series, including the Fourth Presbyterian Noon Concert Series in Chicago, Fine Arts at First in Kenosha (WI) and Musical Mondays in Milwaukee. They also have performed during live radio broadcasts on the "Live Studio C" program on Nashville Public Radio and the 21st Century Classical program on WSME in Milwaukee. The quintet released their first CD in 2006, "Brass Outings," featuring Andre Previn's "Four Outings for Brass."

Admission to the concert is $5 at the door; WIU students will be admitted free with a valid ID.
