Dear Campus Community,

Western Illinois University is pleased to host the Sixth Annual Environmental Summit Wednesday, April 8. In keeping with the University's Higher Values in Higher Education Strategic Plan and as part of Western's commitment to sustainability issues,
I invite you to participate in this year's summit. All summit-related events are open free to the public.

The 2009 summit, "Healthy Planet, Healthy People," will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in Western's University Union. The event will focus on the relationship between the environment and people's health.

This year's keynote speaker, Dr. Sandra Steingraber, an author and ecologist from Illinois, will present "Contaminated Without Consent: How Pollutants in Air, Food, and Water Violate Human Rights and What We Can Do About It" at noon on the Macomb campus and at 7 p.m. at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa. A book-signing and reception will follow each presentation.

I look forward to seeing you at the 2009 Environmental Summit.

Sincerely,

Al Goldfarb, President
Western Illinois University
