WIU to Host Nat'l Student Conference
July 28, 2010
MACOMB, IL – Because of a select group of Western Illinois University students' enthusiasm and their commitment to their school, Western was recently selected as the host school for the 2011 National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) annual conference.
"The annual conference provides an opportunity for students to come together from across the nation to talk about relevant issues and allows for students to come together for a common goal: to improve the on-campus residential experience of students," said Tera Monroe, director of residence life at WIU and the NACURH 2011 conference adviser.
WIU students began the bid process in early September 2009 and presented the final bid to host NACURH 2011 in San Diego in June at the 2010 annual conference.
"On behalf of the conference staff, we are extremely thrilled for the opportunity to open our campus to the NACURH community for the first time in WIU's history," noted Amy Dolezal and Jeremy Homolka, WIU students and 2011 conference co-chairs.
NACURH is the largest student-run organization in the world, bringing together 400 schools from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Qatar. NACURH's central mission is to promote living on campus as an integral part of the college experience, and strives to provide resources to help member schools create the ultimate residence hall environment and experience. The 2011 conference is scheduled for May 27 – May 30.
"I am extremely proud of Inter-Hall Council and their commitment, dedication and the many hours of hard work invested by its members," said Garry Johnson, vice president for student services. "They are enthusiastic about what they do and I am confident they will do an excellent job representing NACURH and WIU."
