Homecoming Weekend Sept. 24-25

MACOMB, IL – Alumni and friends are invited back to Western Illinois University's 87th Homecoming – 2010 Reasons to Love Purple and Gold.

Western's Alumni Association will welcome back past students and friends for activities and get-togethers Friday (Sept. 24) and Saturday (Sept. 25), Homecoming Day, while WIU students will be busy earning points for their residence halls or organizations by attending and participating in events – including Yell Like Hell, a variety show, the parade float competition and the king and queen contest earlier in the week.

An All-Alumni Social, with complimentary food and beverages kicks off the weekend from 5-10 p.m. Friday (Sept. 24) at the Alumni House.

Homecoming Day starts with the traditional Old Stompin' Ground Runaround 5K Run/2 Mile Walk beginning at 8 a.m. with registration from 7-7:45 a.m. at the Alumni House. Check out this year's new race route at wiu.edu/alumni/race.php. Starting at 9 a.m., complimentary coffee and donuts will be served at the Alumni House; then, stay for the best view of the Homecoming Parade, which begins just off of the Macomb Square at 10:30 a.m. From 12–3 p.m. there will be an alumni and friends cookout at "The Right Place," a large tent just west of Hanson Field, where faculty and administrators from the colleges and across campus will be available to meet and greet alumni. At 3 p.m. the Fighting Leathernecks square off against Missouri Valley conference rival Indiana State at Hanson Field.

WIU will also be honoring the classes of 1960, 1970 and 1985 during its 2010 Reunion Weekend Sept. 24-25. The fun-filled weekend will culminate Saturday evening with a 6-8 p.m. unique event in the University Union Lamoine Room. Drop by to reminisce with former classmates, renew old friendships, dine at exotic food stations and experience wonderful entertainment. A short program will be held at 7:15 p.m. to introduce all of the reunion attendees and give each an opportunity to tell a favorite WIU memory. The newest members of the Half-Century Club will also be inducted.

Homecoming reservations may be made and tickets may be purchased online at https://www.wiu.com/alumni. Click on Homecoming 2010 – Make Reservations. The Right Place cookout is $5; football tickets are $10; a 5K run/2 mile walk T-shirt is $10, among many other options. For Reunion reservations, click on Reunion – Reservations. There are many Reunion options to choose from.
