MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Department of Accountancy and Finance, in combination with CPAexcel, will offer a certified public accountant (CPA) review course Friday evenings and Saturday mornings and afternoons from Friday, Jan. 28 through Saturday, May 7. The course will be offered simultaneously on WIU's Macomb campus in Stipes Hall 20 and at WIU-Quad Cities (60th Street campus) in Room B16.

According to Gregg Woodruff, associate professor of accountancy and finance at WIU, the review course includes in-class instructional videos, an instructor who will review exam questions, a supplemental online course, review books, software and a set of flash cards. The regular price for the review is $2,000, but individuals who sign up through Western get a discounted price of $1,495. The review will cover business and environment concepts (BEC); auditing (AUD) and regulations (REG); financial accounting and reporting coverage.

The WIU/CPAexcel review will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28 and will be held Friday evenings from 5:30-8:30 p.m. In addition, the class meets Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. and afternoons until approximately 4 p.m.

Taking an instructor-led CPA review course provides candidates with the discipline needed to successfully complete the CPA exam, Woodruff said.

"The review course becomes part of the candidate's weekly schedule. Making the effort as a member of a group will keep the candidate going and make it more fun. All members of the CPA review course are working toward the same goal.

"The CPA certificate and license are essential credentials in today's accounting and business environment," Woodruff added. "The CPA is not only a source of pride for the individual, but should also result in increased job opportunities, quicker promotions and higher salaries."

Candidates interested in taking the CPA exam in the State of Illinois should also go to the Illinois Board of Examiners' website (www.illinois-cpa-exam.com), which provides application information and forms.
