MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University alumnus Paul Bubb, associate athletic director for external affairs at Murray State University (Murray, KY), will deliver "The Job Search -- From Both Sides of the Desk" at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21 in Brophy Hall, rooms 224-226. Bubb earned his master's degree from the WIU Department of Kinesiology Sport Management Program in 2001.

According to Darlene Young, associate professor in kinesiology and sport management graduate program coordinator, the first part of Bubb's presentation will focus on the job search in intercollegiate athletics from the perspective of an athletic administrator. She noted Bubb will provide insight for students as an employer and potential candidate as he explains the administrator's view in the hiring process.

"In the second part of the presentation, Paul will present three situations he experienced as an athletic administrator," Young explained. "This will be an interactive segment, as he involves the students in identifying issues and discussing how these were resolved, and students will be provided three cases in advance. Bubb uses these three cases to emphasize how an administrator assumes different roles, specifically the role of an investigator, disciplinarian and public relations officer. Paul's session will provide our students with two beneficial perspectives. He has been a great alumnus of our program, and he has always been willing to give back to our program," she added.

Bubb has served in his current position at Murray State University since 2008. In his position, he directs that university's athletic development, which entails organizing and implementing fundraising programs; he has developed and implemented fundraising programs up to $3 million. He also directs and/or supervises operations for sports information, marketing, promotions, corporate sponsorships, game management and facilities development. In addition, he supervises and manages department staffs of more than 70 full-time and part-time employees, including approximately 14-17 head coaches and three NCAA Division I programs. Prior to his post at Murray State University, Bubb served in a number of athletic-department positions at colleges and universities since 1980, including as the director of athletics at Idaho State University and as the interim director of athletics at the University of Maine.

Bubb's presentation is sponsored the Visiting Lecture Committee, the Sport Management Club and the sport management program. The WIU sport management graduate degree program was established in 1972 and is one of the oldest sport management programs in the U.S.
