Jones: Development Director

MACOMB, IL -- Michael Jones, assistant director of alumni programs at Western Illinois University, has been appointed director of development for Libraries, the Centennial Honors College and the School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach at Western, effective Oct. 1, according to Rick Carter, executive director of the School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach.
"Michael's experience working with WIU alumni, and the many contacts he has made over the years working in both alumni programs and development initiatives, will serve him well as the director of development for Libraries, the Honors College and the School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach," Carter said. "His familiarity with, and affinity for, Western will allow him to build upon the excellent work that former development director Stephanie Sellers started."
As development director for Libraries, the Honors College and the School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach, Jones will be responsible for working with the deans and directors to establish long-range goals for development activities for these areas, as well as for securing major gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations to support academic priorities.
Jones, a LaHarpe (IL) native, has served as assistant alumni director since April 2009. Previously he was the sports and marketing director for Prestige Communication in Macomb for 10 years. He has also served as the "Voice of Western Illinois University Athletics," and co-founded the Western Sports Network. Jones is currently working toward a master's degree in sport management at Western, and as part of his master's program served as a development program assistant for WIU Athletics.
He is a member of the Macomb Community Garden Program and the Purple and Gold Gala committee at WIU. Jones received his bachelor's degree in communication from Monmouth College.
