We Care Monday Event Canceled

MACOMB, IL - Due to forecasted inclement weather, the Western Illinois University We Care event scheduled for today (Sept. 26) has been canceled. Volunteers scheduled to work this afternoon should meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27 at their previously scheduled locations.

We Care 2011

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University Fall We Care event will take place Monday, Sept. 26 through Thursday, Sept. 29.

To coincide with Western's 2011 Homecoming weekend Sept. 30-Oct. 1, the Fall We Care will focus on various planting projects across campus, as well as general cleanup. Volunteers are being sought to assist in the plantings and cleanup, which will be held from 3-5:30 p.m. each day. The schedule is as follows:

Monday, Sept. 26: Tree planting/Sustainability
Night
Tuesday, Sept. 27: Planting mums and bulbs
throughout campus
Wednesday, Sept. 28: Spreading mulch throughout campus
Thursday, Sept. 29: General campus cleanup and trash
pickup

Those interested in helping any or all days need to register by Friday, Sept. 23 by contacting Tara Beal, superintendent of landscape maintenance, at 298-1834, ext. 255 or TS-Beal@wiu.edu. Include first and second choices of dates and e-mail, mailing address and phone number.

Volunteers will be asked to meet at their assigned planting areas at 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served. WIU grounds crew personnel will supervise and assist with the plantings.

Since the beginning of Western Illinois University's We Care event in 1994, thousands of perennials and hundreds of trees have been planted to beautify the WIU campus.
