MACOMB, IL – Alexander Adams, a senior at Macomb High School, has been selected for a Western Illinois University Centennial Honors Scholarship, which covers tuition, fees, and a residence hall room for four years.

High school students with an ACT score of 28 and higher and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher have the opportunity to qualify for the scholarship.

Adams said he chose Western because of its meteorology program.

"My parents went to school there and work there now and they both enjoy the University, so I want to take part in the experience," he said. "Teachers all have degrees in their field, which provides for better quality teaching. It has a beautiful campus and excellent facilities…and it's affordable and the people are friendly."

During his time at Macomb High School, Adams participated in cross country, tennis, the concert choir, wind symphony, marching band, madrigals, the men's ensemble, one-act plays, the spring musical performance, Scholastic Bowl, the math team, WYSE and the National Honor Society. He is also active in his church's choir and became an Eagle Scout as part of Boy Scout Troop 330.

At WIU, Adams plans to major in meteorology, join some music ensembles and participate in intramural sports programs, such as tennis and ultimate Frisbee.

After graduating from Western, Adams said he plans to pursue a graduate degree in meteorology.
