Baldwin Awarded Centennial Honors Scholarship to Western Illinois University
December 1, 2011
MACOMB, IL – Emily Baldwin, a senior at Guilford High School in Rockford, has been selected for a Western Illinois University Centennial Honors Scholarship, which covers tuition, fees and a residence hall room for four years.
High school students with an ACT score of 28 and higher and a grade point average of 3.5 or higher have the opportunity to qualify for the scholarship.
Baldwin said she chose WIU because of the size of the campus and its proximity to her hometown.
"The campus is a nice size…not too large or too small," she said. "Also, it is the perfect distance away from Rockford, which I think is important because I can be independent, but have my hometown a few hours away."
She believes that going to college is important to help get a stable job and be successful. Baldwin also hopes WIU will help her improve her writing skills and her work ethic.
During her years of high school, Baldwin participated on the school's dance team and was part of the National Honor Society. She was also a member of the school's Guilford newspaper staff and participated in mission trips with her church during the summer months.
While at WIU, Baldwin plans to major in fashion merchandising and explore careers in the industry.
